Set within a stately 1907 colonial bungalow, The Bhawanipur House is a living celebration of Kolkata’s cultural heritage, thoughtfully reimagined for today’s diners. Founded by the Sureka family, who chose restoration over demolition, the space has been carefully transformed into one of the city’s most evocative all-day cafés—blending old-world charm with modern comfort.
As featured in The Telegraph, the project was born from a desire to preserve the soul of Kolkata while creating a space that invites people to gather, share stories, and savour meaningful meals.
Spanning over 11,000 square feet across three levels, the café houses a peaceful pebbled courtyard with a fountain, a bakery and tea lounge offering curated tasting sessions, a central dining hall beneath a grand glass chandelier, and a rooftop terrace with a live wood-fired pizza kitchen. Every corner tells a story—whether it’s the Burma teak doors, vintage mosaic flooring, stained glass details, or the century-old mango tree and lotus pond still thriving on the property.
The culinary vision is led by renowned chef Sneha Singhi Upadhyay, who brings together global comfort cuisine with subtle local influences. From pesto lasagne and Buddha bowls to wood-fired pizzas, handmade desserts, and speciality teas, the menu reflects balance, creativity, and soul.
More than just a restaurant, The Bhawanipur House is a cultural experience—where time slows down, heritage is honoured, and every visit becomes a memory. Whether you're catching up over coffee, marking a special occasion, or simply seeking a moment of calm, you’ll find warmth and character in every detail.
